Eastaldn disaster commemorated
Saturday, July 24th, 2010This afternoon, along the Chicago River, there will be a memorial service for the victims of the Eastland disaster, which occurred 95 years ago, today.
The Eastland steamer was going to take Western Electric workers on an excursion cruise when it capsized in the Chicago River.
One bit of trivia with this is that the Oprah studios was one of the temporary morgues where the bodies of the victims were taken and, to some, is still haunted today.
