It’s finally over
Monday, September 15th, 2008After three days of non stop rain, it’s finally over. The pavement is drying out and the cleanup is beginning.
For some, though, the cleanup hasn’t started yet. I make deliveries and yesterday, it was unreal. The main streets of the town I deliver to were closed. The expressway north of the shop was closed because of a levee failing and THAT caused all kinds of issues since the traffic from the expressway was funneled right by our place. The local police were out nearly all day directing traffic but finding your way around the town was a challenge to say the least.
Amazingly, we had people coming in for food and calling for deliveries. It was something that we didn’t expect. I feel for those whose basements flooded, and there were a LOT of folks with flooded basements. I especially feel for those folks that live north of where our shop is located because they are in a low area and, from what I heard yesterday afternoon, the local police were evacuating them so there’s more people whose lives are in flux right now.
The Red Cross has been doing yeoman service through all of this. If you can spare even a buck to send them to help with their efforts, it will help.
