One of these days
Thursday, February 4th, 2010I’ll post a vid I found that’s just amazing.
I’ll post a vid I found that’s just amazing.
Looks like good ol’ C(r)ook County is still vibrant.
Now the regional supt. of schools is in big time trouble.
Here’s the article from the Chicago Tribune:

McGwire’s admission that he used steriods is too little, too late.
Now, Sammy, what about you?
Why is my BS meter on tilt when I hear about those two that were at the state dinner without an invite?
“We had an invitation”. Sure you did and your name never showed up on any list. Right.
Someone on the Secret Service detail’s gonna get slapped for this one but it looks like the whole process was flawed to begin with.
the story about the cub scout who got suspended for bringing a camping utensil to school just shows that zero tolerance is a joke. it’s not enforced equally across the board.
The only question I have is where were his parents when he decided to take this thing to school? He managed to sneak it out of the house even though I would assume he knew it would get him in trouble.
Next thing you know, the kids won’t be ableto bring pencils to school because they have a sharp point!
Here’s another item from the same issue of Newsbytes concerning school districts in Illinois where malware was used to steal banking info:
–FBI Investigating Cyber Theft of School District Funds
(September 25 & 28, 2009)
The FBI is looking into a series of cyber attacks across the country including several at public school districts in Illinois. The attacks may involve malware known as Clampi that is sued to steal bank account login data. The attackers stole $350,000 from Crystal Lake District 47’s bank account over the summer.

(ED: The misspelling in the article is deliberate by SANS.)
Seems there is a new (relatively) spam/malware deal going on.
Here’s the article from the SANS Newsbites column, Vol. 11, No. 77:
(I’ve pasted the whole thing here so that you can read it and also access the links at the end of the story)
–US-CERT Warns of Spam Pretending to be From IRS
(September 25 & 28, 2009)
The US Computer Emergency Readiness team (US-CERT) has issued an alert
warning of a spam attack in which the messages are spoofed to appear to
come from the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regarding underreported
income. The messages encourage the recipients to open an attachment or
click on a link to view their tax statement, but the attachment contains
malware and the link leads to a malicious website. The IRS warns people
not to open attachments in emails claiming to be from the agency. The
malware used in this attack is the Zeus Trojan horse program, which is
difficult to detect. Zeus is used to help cyber criminals steal money
from bank accounts.

Here’s an article that I grabbed on 9/11 concerning the “Mystery of the Missing Gun” that caused massive upheaval in Harvey.
This is from the Southtown Star:
September 11, 2009
BY MAURA POSSLEY
A former Harvey police supervisor was sentenced Thursday to three years in
prison for selling a gun, seized by police in a criminal case, back to a
defendant’s family.
A Cook County Circuit Court jury on Aug. 13 convicted Hollis Dorrough Jr., 40,
of Chicago’s Marquette Park neighborhood, of perjury, unlawful sale of a weapon
and official misconduct.
Evidence showed that he removed a semiautomatic pistol from the Harvey police
evidence locker and sold it to the stepfather of felon Anthony T. Reynolds in
late 2005.
The gun was found during an investigation of an October 2005 incident in which
Reynolds, of Harvey, allegedly pointed the gun at two police officers near his
home.
The gun was discovered missing in June 2006, just before Reynolds was to go on
trial for the shooting incident. He was convicted in early 2007.
Dorrough, who was on the Harvey force for 11 years, had contended that he
removed the pistol from police custody on orders from Harvey Mayor Eric Kellogg,
who he said was a friend of Reynolds’ stepfather. Kellogg has not been charged
in the incident and has denied any wrongdoing.
Ed: Of course, Kellogg will maintain he didn’t do anything but NOTHING goes on in that town with him knowing everything and approving it.
Right now, there’s going to be a dearth of things here. the landlord killed the internet feed we had, so I have to access this via a library computer.
However, if I find stuff that I think you’ll like, it’ll show up here.
